Applebee's, the popular restaurant chain, is changing the way it serves juice after a toddler was mistakenly given a small amount of alcohol at a Detroit area location.
Taylor Dill-Reese/Mother:
I'm sorry this had to happen to you.
Madison Heights police say the problem arose when fifteen-month-old Dominic Dill-Reese's mother ordered her son a kid's meal and asked for apple juice as the beverage. But restaurant staff mistakenly brought a leftover mixed drink, mislabeled as apple juice.
Taylor Dill-Reese:
We took it from him and he kind of lied his head on the table and dozed off a little bit. And then woke back up and got real happy and was saying bye to people, hi to people. His food came and he wouldn't eat it.
Dominic was checked out by doctors, and the family was told his blood alcohol level was .10 percent.
Taylor Dill-Reese:
The doctor told us if he had drank that whole glass he would have died.
.10 is two points over the legal limit for an adult driver in many states, but Dominic is expected to be OK. Newspaper accounts say Applebee's will now begin pouring juice for children from single-serving containers and plans to retrain its workers.
