Missouri's
attorney general is asking the US Supreme Court to block federal officials from destroying a Mississippi River levee. They try to prevent flooding in a small Illinois city upstream. On Saturday, the mayor of Cairo, Illinois issued a mandatory evacuation over flood concerns.

Investigators
in France say they've found the black box from the 2009 Air France flight that went down in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean. Authorities hope the discovery will help determine what caused the flight from Brazil to crash killing all 228 people aboard.

The
Italian and British embassies in Libya's capital have come under attack hours after Moammar Gadhafi escaped a NATO missile strike that Libya says killed one of his sons and 3 grandchildren. NATO insists all its targets are military and linked to Gadhafi's systematic attack on civilians.

Some
1.5 million people gathered around St. Peter's Square Sunday for the beatification of John Paul the Second. Pope Benedict said during Sunday's mass that his predecessor restored Christianity's "true face as a religion of hope."
