Test 1 – Task 2

- People buy thing based on their wants instead of their needs, and advertisements tend to make people want to buy the things.

- As soon as you are exposed to an advertisement, you will want to but it, not thinking if you really need it. This is the power of advertising, and it is so strong that people often end up overspending.

- Especially young people easily get tempted by advertisements. There are more young people who got broke as a result of their impulsive purchase these days.

- You may say that you can resist the temptation, and actually are the one who are not affected by advertisements.

- Most people assert that they are not affected by advertisements, but if this were really the case, why would companies spend over $200 billion a year in advertising?

- There are a number of people who might suggest that they are not affected by advertisements. However, this is what advertisers want you to think….
- For example, if we are not affected by advertisements how come last year American businesses spent 200 billion dollars advertising their products? These people are not fools. They know that if they say the right word, a TV ad, or magazine ad etc, they could affect people. They can encourage people to buy their product. Two hundred billion dollars! Why would a company spend 200,000 dollars to produce the average television advertisement and another 250,000 dollars just to "air" the ad?
- We are being bombarded by advertisements every day.
- Advertising encompasses almost every aspect of daily life, to the extent that most people are hardly aware of it. They assume that advertising has no effect on them.
- Contrary to popular belief, however, advertising exerts an enormous influence on our thoughts, attitudes, perceptions and actions.
- It could be argued that one of the most impressive accomplishments of the advertising industry is to make believe we are not affected by advertisements.
- If advertisers were not aware that advertising influences people and children, why would companies spend ridiculous amounts of money on it each year?
- The power of advertising is in its ability to manipulate people, turning them into unconscious and addicted consumers, while they continue to deny that they could ever be affected by the messages of such positive brands.
- There is nothing wrong with advertising itself. The problem comes when the power of advertising is misused.
- It is often said that advertisements sometimes encourage people to buy things unnecessarily.

- The more advertisements on television or on the streets, the more purchases people make.

- It seems to me that people buy things unnecessarily, encouraged by advertisements.

- I would argue that people buy things based on how the advertisements portray them, not on their actual needs.
